About Mary Kay

I had a successful career in nonprofit administration, and served as Executive Director of many organizations doing good in the world, but it never felt like enough for me.  My longing for a deeper spiritual life led me to become a Chaplain and a Spiritual Mentor so I could be of service in a more direct way.

I am an ordained Interfaith minister. I had the good fortune to study at the Chaplaincy Institute in Berkeley, California.

My spiritual mentoring training truly began in the 1990s after a decade-long apprenticeship with a wonderful Mayan curandero named Manuel Flores, He guided my working one-on-one with clients using shamanic ritual and healing techniques from his tradition. I am also a longtime practitioner of Tai Chi, Qi Gong, and more recently of Vipassana meditation.

In addition to my work as a Spiritual Mentor, I serve as a part-time chaplain and bereavement facilitator for the Tucson Medical Center Hospice where I offer spiritual care to our patients and their families.  And, as a Grief Recovery Specialist, I facilitate for Grief Recovery Tucson where anyone experiencing a heart-wrenching grief can develop tools to heal from loss.

Before stepping fully onto the spiritual mentoring path, Jinny Joy Johnson was my mentor for many years, so I know how powerful and beautiful the experience can be.

I feel deeply grateful for all the help, guidance and kindness I've experienced along the way. It is a pleasure to pay it forward to my clients.

I live in the foothills of the Tucson Mountains and in my free time I love bird watching, wood carving, walking in our beautiful desert, and making gourd drums.  My beloved and I just celebrated our 28th anniversary.
